🕌 Masjid Etiquette & Guidelines
“The most beloved places to Allah are the Masajid...”
– Sahih Muslim, Hadith 671
The masjid is the house of Allah and a sacred space for worship and reflection. To maintain its sanctity and ensure a peaceful environment for all, we kindly ask you to follow the etiquettes below.
🔹 Entering the Masjid
Enter with your right foot and say:
اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
“O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.”Silence your phone.
Remove shoes and place them neatly on the racks.
Avoid loud conversations or greetings near the prayer area.
🔹 Proper Dress Code
Maintaining proper attire in the masjid is part of honoring its sanctity and the act of worship.
Dress modestly and cover the ‘awrah in accordance with Islamic guidelines:
Men’s ‘awrah: From the navel to the knees (preferably with loose, full-length clothing).
Women’s ‘awrah: The entire body except the face and hands, including a head covering (hijab).
Clothing should be loose, non-revealing, non-transparent, and free of offensive images or text.
“O Children of Adam! Take your adornment at every masjid...”
— Surah Al-A‘raf 7:31
🔹 Behavior Inside the Masjid
General Conduct
Speak softly and avoid raising your voice.
Refrain from idle talk, gossip, or disruptive behavior.
Sit respectfully and do not block walkways or doors.
Avoid saying salam loudly in the prayer area if others are praying or reciting.
Respect the designated areas for men and women.
Use assigned entrances and exits, and avoid crossing into unintended area.
During Prayer & Worship
Do not pass directly in front of someone praying.
Do not rush to catch the rukūʿ—walk calmly as taught by the Prophet (PBUH).
Begin forming the first row directly behind the imam before filling other areas.
Fill gaps in rows; stand shoulder-to-shoulder with no spaces.
Straighten rows as this completes the prayer.
Do not stand or signal for the iqāmah. This is the role of the Imam or appointed mu’adhin.
Avoid correcting the Imam unless the designated person is silent and you are certain of the mistake.
Avoid conversations during the Imam’s speech or lecture.
🔹 Jumu‘ah (Friday Prayer) Guidelines
Perform ghusl before attending if possible.
Arrive early to earn greater reward.
Do not step over people to reach the front.
Pray two rak‘ahs upon entering, even if the khutbah has begun.
Sit quietly and listen to the khutbah attentively.
No talking or phone use during the khutbah. This may void the reward of Jumu‘ah.
🔹 Families & Children in the Masjid
Children are welcome and a blessing in the masjid.
Parents must supervise children at all times.
Keep children close and guide them gently in proper masjid manners.
Allow children to play only in appropriate areas and after prayers or events, if it does not disturb others.
If a child becomes disruptive, please step out briefly and return once they’re calm.
Masjid volunteers may gently remind parents if needed—please accept these reminders respectfully.
🔹 Leaving the Masjid
Exit with your left foot and say:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
